Spring – My favourite thing is …

Our second term at St Giles has been very exciting so far! We have been learning lots and lots of new and fun things.

We have really enjoyed watching our chicks hatch!

We have become really excited about stories and so we have our very own story city in the classroom! Each area is linked to a different story with lots of exciting activities waiting to be explored.

We hosted our very first ‘Super Storytime’ this week and it was fantastic! Not only did we get to share stories with each other but with our families as well. We are very excited to continue this every Friday at 2.30pm.

We have become very excited about books this term and decided it would be fantastic to share our love of books and reading with our families. We have started our very own ‘Foundation Library’ with lots of story sacks for children to borrow and share with their family.

Autumn – Who are you?

This has been our first term at St Giles Academy. We have really enjoyed exploring our new classroom and meeting lots of new people. We have started to learn so many new things!

We have been practising writing our names. We do this everyday! We have been using lots of nice things to make our names, including making our names out of beads, writing our names in glitter and using chalk on the floor outside!

We have been learning how to count to 10 and have even started practising counting to 20! We have been learning how to put objects in a line to count them accurately and then touch each one to make sure we count them all. We helped the Gruffalo put his purple prickles back on!

Every day we learn a new sound. We use Read. Write. Inc. to learn these sounds and practice finding them hidden amongst other sounds. We have our own aprons with mini sound cards and mini Fred Frogs to pretend being the teacher and teach other children!

While learning about ourselves we have discovered a love of the Gruffalo story! We went on our own Gruffalo hunt around the playground to try and find him and found all the animals from the story as well as the Gruffalo who was hiding!
