Well this new term has got off to a bang as we explore the question ‘What is out there?’ Our project this term is divided into the following blocks:
Block 1 – Settling on the moon; baseline assessments, getting to know our new classroom and our new classmates and teachers.
Block 2 – Whatever Next – Writing retells of the book ‘Whatever Next’; learning about the features of lists and writing lists of what the bear took with him to the moon.
Block 3 – Can I make a Rocket – Planning, Critiquing, and designing and making a rocket.
Block 4 – Aliens love underpants – Exploring descriptive language and learning how to use adjectives in our writing. Designing a new alien and critiquing it.
Block 5 – The Aliens visit earth to learn about Christmas – We will learn about Christianity and hold an exhibition for the children’s parents about what we have learnt this term.
Week commencing 18th September.
We were very lucky this week to have the opportunity to go in a planetarium. We had to enter a large inflatable dome by crawling through a large grey tunnel. We leant about night and day, the role of the sun and moon, and the different planets in the sky. We also got to star gaze. We learnt about certain star patterns which we can look for in the sky like the ‘Great Square’ and the ‘Saucepan’.
Also this week Mrs Skelland thought one of us had left a large box on the carpet during playtime. She wasn’t very happy at first, but it turns out it was left by a bear after his visit to the moon. We loved looking in the box and discovering what was in there and using the items to retell the bears experience of visiting the moon.
